DEAD ENDS LIVE SEPTEMBER 13-14, 2024

FESTIVAL UPDATE

The weekend of September 13 -14 marks the return of Edmonton’s Dead Ends Live Festival.

This year, all stages are at the Chateau Lacombe Hotel with no shows overlapping. As we move into year three, we have added a second stage at the Chateau Lacombe Hotel in the Bellamy lounge across from Shakedown Street.

Friday and Saturday evening we will host two opening acts in the Alberta Ballroom, followed by two full bands never seen in Edmonton! Furthurmore is John Kadlecik’s Grateful Dead experience; an ever-evolving collective of world-class musicians paying heartfelt tribute to the legacy of the Grateful Dead. John Kadlecik is one of the foremost interpreters of the Grateful Dead songbook, a superb guitarist, and a fine singer and songwriter in his own right.

We are excited to have Vancouver’s Allmost Brothers, a tribute to the legendary Allman Brothers band. They brilliantly recreate the sounds of 60s and 70s southern rock, mixing blues, jazz, country and rock and roll. This 6-piece band, with their two drummers, are guaranteed to fill the dance floor and rekindle musical memories of Dickie Betts and Duane Allman.

The McGowan Family Band will throw open the ballroom doors Friday with a set that draws from all corners of the vast Dead songbook. All that and a slew of blues-based favourites made popular by the Dead and their friends over the years. Expect some Dylan! Expect to dance!

FESTIVAL UPDATE

The Almighty Turtlenecks will set the tone Saturday night and pack the dance floor with classics from the 60s & 70s. A stellar band boasting some of Edmonton’s finest musicians, with much-lauded producer and guitarist Stew Kirkwood at the helm. A special one-time only treat for Dead Ends Live!

Saturday Afternoon Jam, hosted by David Gans from The Grateful Dead Radio Hour will be full of many surprises including a set from The Band Us playing Quicksilver hits from the 70s.

We are honoured to have veteran musician Lionel Rault, host of CKUA’s popular radio program, Lionel’s Vinyls, presiding over an all-star cast of some of Edmonton’s best-loved performers: Dwayne Hrynkiw, Dana Wylie, Bobby Cameron, Trace Jordan, Gord Matthews and more! Bellamy Lounge Stage, Friday & Saturday from 4-7.

The Light Psychlone provides amazing psychedelic light shows that will take you right back to the 60s

Shakedown Street is your festival marketplace for cool merchandise, books, posters and album signings.

Weekend passes are $75.00 at Eventbrite, Record Collectors Paradise & Blackbyrd Myoozik in Edmonton, Heritage Posters & Music in Calgary.

“Listening to the musical chemistry created between local musicians and those in the extended Dead family using Grateful Dead music as a vessel was a magical experience. There were so many moments of unique musical brilliance. For me, playing at the festival was an opportunity to participate in the evolution of the Dead’s music and expansion of the ethos. I was very grateful to contribute to this wonderful community that is really important to me.”
